Director, Volfram Systems India Pvt. Ltd.
Founder, R Design Advertising
Interviewer: What inspired you to enter the boiler manufacturing and steam engineering industry, and how has your journey been so far?
Pallavi: I’ve always been passionate about building and nurturing brands. After running my own design and advertising company, R Design, I began supporting Volfram in their branding and communications. Over time, I realised how impactful the steam and heat engineering industry is not just from a technical perspective, but also in terms of sustainability and energy conservation. What inspired me most was the opportunity to give a strong visual and strategic identity to a highly technical sector. My journey so far has been dynamic – full of learning, growth, and purpose.
Interviewer: Looking back, how has your role evolved over the years at Volfram Systems India Pvt. Ltd.? What have been some of the key milestones in your journey?
Pallavi: When I joined Volfram in 2014, my focus was on streamlining administrative tasks and building a consistent brand image. Over time, my role expanded to leading our online presence, managing exhibition planning, designing marketing campaigns, and creating a communication style that reflects Volfram’s values.
Key milestones include:
- Launching our Smart Boiler Controller at Boiler India 24
- Designing a full rebranding strategy that unified our visual and verbal identity
- Establishing a strong presence on digital platforms and exhibitions that truly reflect who we are
Interviewer: Can you describe some of the most defining turning points in your career that shaped your professional path?
Pallavi: A key turning point in my career came in 1999 when I moved from administrative work to graphic design, which helped me understand the power of communication. In 2006, I started my own company, gaining the confidence to take bold decisions and lead projects. My experience as the head of an advertising media house for the engineering industry gave me valuable insights into technical products and processes, making it easier to connect branding with industry needs. The most defining shift came in 2014 when I took on the branding of Volfram, allowing me to merge creativity with engineering. Since then, working closely with the Volfram team, I have embraced digital transformation and had the opportunity to represent the company at international exhibitions, showcasing innovation and sustainability on global platforms.
Interviewer: How do you see the role of women evolving in the industrial and energy sectors over the next decade?
Pallavi: Women are already making strides in technical and leadership roles, and the next decade will bring even more balance. With access to education, awareness, and mentorship, more women will enter engineering, manufacturing, and energy fields-not just in supportive roles but as decision-makers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. Companies are also becoming more inclusive, and that’s creating a much-needed shift.
Interviewer: As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated industry, what challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Pallavi: In the early days, one of the biggest challenges was breaking the stereotype that creativity and engineering don’t belong together. I had to consistently demonstrate that branding, communication, and presentation play a critical role in building trust and value in the industrial sector. I focused on results, overcame these challenges by staying consistent, showing results, and building trust-not just through words but through action and delivery, earned credibility through meaningful contributions-both in strategy and execution.
Interviewer: What advice would you give to young women who are aspiring to enter technical, manufacturing, or industrial careers?
Pallavi: Believe in your ideas and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Learn the basics, build confidence in the field, and don’t hesitate to take up space in rooms where you might be the only woman. Whether it’s design, engineering, or leadership-your perspective adds value. Stay curious, stay committed, and always back yourself.
